News Flash: All Houses Have Arrived!

October 06, 2007

News Flash: All 20 Solar Decathlon houses are now present and accounted for! Santa Clara University's house finally arrived late Friday at about 9 p.m. As their truck rumbled onto the National Mall, the team cheered and hugged each other. What a relief! The saga of a broken truck axle in Nebraska was over and the house has now been safely delivered to its destination. The team worked through the night, and by 3 a.m. Saturday morning the house was securely resting on the Mall.

At the 9 a.m. meeting Saturday morning, all of the other teams cheered at the news and offered help to the exhausted—but happy—Santa Clara team members who had worked all night. The offer of help was gratefully acknowledged, but this proud team said they were confident they would catch up and be ready for the competition.

Three cheers to the Santa Clara decathletes—now we are one big happy family!

The Santa Clara University team worked through the night to assemble their house on the Mall.

Santa Clara University is confident they will finish construction and be ready for the ten contests of the Solar Decathlon.

Congratulations to a great team effort. I live in Virginia in the Metro Washington, DC area. My son Chris is a freshman and told me about the house when it got to the Mall. On my way into D.C. during the last days of the competition, I made a detour to see the house. Wearing my Santa Clara polo shirt for support, the students let me in to see it even though the houses were closed for judging to occur. They were in 11th place at the time but jumped to third. Great Job everyone!!
